To interact with the Virtual Reality special devices are necessary. With those it is for example possible to walk through rooms or to have a look at each side of a virtual object.

ART provides several interaction devices for use in Virtual Reality projections. On the following pages you will find a short description of each device and their technical specifications.

 

Flystick2

The Flystick2 is our widely-used wireless interaction device for standard VR applications with a protected passive target.

The Flystick2 has 6 buttons and an analog joystick. Up to 4 Flysticks can be used simultaneously. The wireless data transmission to the controller is guaranteed by a USB radio transreceiver in the ISM band. Flystick2 data can be received by trackd, VRPN, VR Juggler and most applications with direct interfaces.


New in September 2013: wired Flystick2 available!
For installations where radio transmission is not possible or even not allowed we developed this corded version of our Flystick2.

FINGERTRACKING

The Fingertracking device is an add-on to the ART tracking system, which allows you to track the orientation of the hand and the position of the fingers. It is wireless, works for one as well as for both hands and is available as a three or five finger version.

The Fingertracking device consists of:
*active hand target for affixing to the back of the hand. Synchronization is provided with a modulated flash and the low voltage power is provided with a rechargeable battery.
*three or five active finger markers, each consisting of an IR LED with diffusing sphere, a fixture for the finger tip and flexible wires. These active markers are time-sequentially addressed and controlled by the active hand target unit.


The output data consists of:
*position and orientation of the back of the hand
*number of tracked fingers as well as a distinguishing value for right and left hands,
*position and orientation of the outermost phalanx, given in the hand coordinate system - *Together with a radius, the position and orientation of the finger tip can be estimated.
*angles between the single phalanxes as well as their lengths - These values are estimated using tracked markers and empirical data.

FLYSTICK3

Flystick3 with passive target and charging station
The Flystick3 is our new lightweight wireless interaction device for VR applications, that is available with a passive (marker based) target. The wireless data transmission to the controller is guaranteed by a USB radio transreceiver in the ISM band.

The Flystick3 is only supported by DTrack2. Flystick3 data can be received by trackd, VRPN, VR Juggler and most applications with direct interfaces.
